CAPS Charity Day – giving back to society
March, 3rd - The hard effort of butter churning, flour mixing and the occasional burning of fingers, were all for an event that was to be executed at the foyer later that afternoon. ‘CAPS Charity Day – giving back to society’, was what ten CAPS’ members was busy preparing for in the college kitchen. Mr. Darren, of the Chef school was kind enough to permit the use of the college culinary facilities, and works undergone since eight in the morning.
The aim of the event was to raise as much money for ‘Women’s Centre for Change’ (WCC), an organisation that is dedicated to the promotion of women’s equality and elimination of violence against women and children in
By 12p.m., cookies and cupcakes fresh from the oven were presented on a simple setting of two tables, chairs and a portable sound system. Cookies were sold at RM5 per packet and cupcakes for a reasonable price of RM2. To boost the volume of profit, henna and face painting services for RM5 each were also offered alongside the scrumptious baked goods.
The afternoon’s effort was also accompanied by the
After two hours, thirty songs rotation and countless sales pitch, all baked goods were sold off and what were left were the tired, but grinning faces of ten very happy CAPS’ members.
Halloween Bash 2008 – Sneak or Freak
October, 30th - Halloween Bash 2008 with the theme Sneak or Freak started off at 7.30pm with the arrival of guests, all ready to indulge in the evening’s event. Our second big event of the year was headed by Erica Choong, Secretary of CAPS, under the advisory of Mr. Sean Khoo and many participative CAPS’ members. The event was also made possible with the collaborative effort of the Mass Communicative Club (MCC) chaired by Maya Hanum and the Cheerleading Club chaired by Sandra.
The itinerary of the night is as follows:
| 7.30 PM | Arrival of Guests |
| 8.00 PM | ‘Thiller’ Dance |
| 8.15 PM | Modeling Event |
| 8.30 PM | Games |
| 9.00 PM | Break |
| 10.00 PM | Singing Performance |
| 10.15 PM | Kit’s Dance |
| 10.30 PM | Announce Best Dressed |
| 11.00 PM | End |
Our MC for the night was Mr. Sean Khoo, the advisor of CAPS. The evening started with a spectacular number by MC with his version of the famous ‘Thiller’ Dance. Trailing the dance was a modeling affair by the girls and guys of the Cheerleading Club. A total of 8 outfits were strutted down the runway that evening. Then the event proceeded with a carefully planned out ‘Sherlock Holmesque’ mystery game that involved all guests. It took the teams approximately 30 minutes to solve the mystery and it was the “Vampires” that had their “Sherlock Holmes” hats on that night.
A break from the performances was then in motion, and the highlight of the night started: a visit to the ‘Ghost Tower’. A queue was starting to form at the entrance of the ‘Ghost Tower’ and was there for a good one and a half hour. During the break, guests spent their time visiting our Tarot Card booth, Face Painting booth and Gift Shop that sold Halloween related items.
At 10pm, the night resumed with Fern gracing us with 3 songs, and she ended her act with an upbeat rendition of Mamma Mia! from the 80’S pop group ABBA. Following that performance was Kit’s impressive dance act. His cool dance moves to One Republic’s ‘Apologize’ seized the crowd’s attention till the end and left us wanting more.
The night then ended with announcements of the ‘Best Dressed Couple’ and ‘Best Dressed Individual’. The titles went to a couple dressed as a Japanese warrior and Geisha and a well portrayed back-from-the-dead ‘Old Man’ respectively. Prizes were also given out to the “Vampires” for their effort in the ‘Crime-Solving’ game earlier.
The event wrapped up at 11pm as scheduled. All in all, it was a successful event. Guests left with encouraging feedback.
